Test and measurement technology with the use of oscilloscopes

Oscilloscopes have been the preferred choice for R& D laboratories for quite some time already. Since its invention at the end of the nineteenth century, the oscilloscope has gone from a very simple device with basic functions, to a high tech portable model with a much larger array of features and also much more complex and less easy to use. A lot of functionality like peak to peak voltage display and FFT analysis just to name a few are now the standards in oscilloscopes.

This great instrument has provided engineers with a very powerful fault finding tool that makes it the perfect tool for test and measurement technology.

Computers have also been used a lot in test applications, but they can quickly show their limits especially when in an environment where vibrations for examples can be almost continuous.

The test and measurement technology has improved a lot over the past, and the good old oscilloscope still has its place in the laboratories. But with the rapid development of computer based instrumentation and the emergence of various other technologies, it is becoming clearer that today’s test applications stretch far wider than ever before. Given that the development of technologies and innovation is incredibly fast, it is almost certain that the equipment and the technologies used for test and measurement will only continue to improve in the future.
